charlavail:

Current project. I have a fascination with victorian/aged wallpaper but I also have an obsession with everything in my upcoming art installation being as original as possible. I studied some wallpaper designs, focusing on how they repeat, and drew up a column of design that could be duplicated. I scanned it, enlarged it and printed it on cardstock. Then I used an exacto knife to cut out the design and create a stencil. I’m working on a canvas for a friend and it’s my first time using this concept. I painted the green background first and now I’m transferring the wallpaper design with the stencil and painting it in. I know I could paint directly onto the stencil but I want the design to be detailed and clean. Once I’ve painted the wallpaper on the entire background I’m going to go back over it with a wash to make it look aged. I’ll post updates.
